As part of the historic global project of reform of the Catholic Church by Pope Francis with his vision of a Synodal Church, journeying together aware of each other’s deep wounds as well as our gifts, Towards Peace now publishes our own contribution submitted to the National Synod Assembly which took place on 18 June 2022.
Consolidated submission on behalf of Towards Peace June 22
It is evident from reading the searingly honest and sometimes visceral contributions that the wound of abuse both clerical and institutional, and its poor handling by leaders, is always with us. It is a wound that endures throughout one’s lifetime. In this context it is important to recall the words of Pope Francis, “the purpose of the Synod is not to produce documents, but to plant dreams, draw forth prophecies and visions, allow hope to flourish, inspire trust, bind up wounds, weave together relationships….”
Having read the Towards Peace submission along with the other submissions from the 26 dioceses as well as other contributions, it is clear that this is listening with a radical call to change – we cannot be found wanting.
